One of the most coveted vehicles on the market is a Mercedes. It’s easy to understand why – the brand has been setting the standards for luxury vehicles for decades and their commitment to never rest on their laurels continues with each new model launch. In addition to pioneering innovations that make their way into other cars, they also produce a number of vehicles that are incredibly difficult to find anywhere else.
Whether it’s a state-of-the-art sports car or a high-roller SUV, every Mercedes has the kind of interior design that rivals the Plaza Hotel in luxury. Plus, their durability is unmatched; a Mercedes will keep looking great and performing well for years to come. That’s why finding a pre-owned Mercedes for sale is such a smart move.
This past May, Mercedes drew some of the world’s most exclusive collectors to Stuttgart for a unique auction that took place in the museum’s grand ballroom. The highlight was the sale of a 1955 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, which the company built just two of, and is regarded as an automotive holy grail. The private sale was conducted by RM Sotheby’s and was kept secret, with potential buyers invited for lunch at the museum and then flown to Stuttgart in a private jet.
The result was that only the most discerning buyers were present for the rare auction, and it was a resounding success. Hagerty notes that the final price, $9.5 million, was far above the previous record set by another one of these rare cars, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT sold at RM Sotheby’s in 2018 for $48.5 million.
Mercedes-Benz has been able to maintain its profit margins even as its overall sales volume declined this year. The brand is focusing on higher-margin segments while exiting the lower-margin ones, and it’s reaping the benefits of this strategy.
Like most western carmakers, Mercedes has an exposed flank in the form of electric vehicles from China and price cuts from Tesla. But the Financial Times Lex column says that as long as the automaker continues to focus on its strongest product lines, it will have a chance to weather these challenges.
