A Diesel engine fire portable fighting pump is a powerful water pump that is powered by diesel internal combustion engines. These pumps are used to provide power for a variety of applications such as firefighting, flood control and irrigation. They are highly efficient and offer lower fuel consumption than petrol pumps, which can save money on operational costs. They also have low vibration and noise levels. These fire fighting pumps are designed to withstand high output pressures and have a durable cast aluminum body, a self-priming system and a robust water tank.
The National Fire Protection Administration estimates that there are 30,000 fire departments in the United States. These departments are supported by a fleet of fire apparatuses that includes 71,800 pumpers; 7,500 aerial apparatuses; 80,000 other suppression vehicles (e.g., pumpers less than 1,000 gallons per minute, brush vehicles and tankers); 57,000 stations; and a variety of other equipment. Approximately half of these vehicles are equipped with diesel engines.
Despite the obvious benefits of a mobile water pump, Gibbs had difficulty getting his idea off the ground. Two major obstacles stood in his way: technology and the fire department’s budget. The high-pressure pumps required by his design were not yet functional, and hose that could handle the high pumping pressures was not available.
However, the technology Gibbs needed to make his vision a reality eventually did become available. Mack Trucks was contracted to build the super pumper and its companion tender, a trailer that held sections of 4 1/2-inch suction hose. The trucks were fitted with Stang Intelligiant monitors and a hydraulically operated mechanical crane that could support up to five lines. Each truck was built on a C model chassis and carried 2,000 feet of the specialized hose. In addition, the trailers were equipped with three satellite tenders that contained additional hose and Stang Intelligiant monitors.
In addition to their use in firefighting, these powerful water pumps are ideally suited for construction, emergency flood control, agricultural and industrial applications. They can be supplied with a range of nozzles to suit any application and are capable of delivering up to 30m3/hr of water at up to 46 metres head of lift. They are easy to start and have an environmentally friendly diesel engine. Their pump casings are constructed of high-grade, abrasion resistant cast aluminium and their delivery outlet caps feature bolt on replaceable suction and discharge ports for maximum ease of maintenance. These Australian manufactured pumps are backed by a 2 year warranty on both the diesel engine and wet end.
